October in Miss Gilsenan's class

8th Nov 2018

What a fantastic month October has been in Miss. Gilsenan’s Primary 2 class!

In Numeracy, the boys and girls have been doing lots of work on Data Handling. We have enjoyed discovering which is the most popular autumnal animal with our class through the use of a whole class Pictograph. We also had great fun organising a Halloween party for Anna and Elsa, sorting the invitation responses into a Carroll diagram, and using our number work to organise place settings for the party. Within our number work, we have been securing our understanding of teen numbers, sequencing them and finding any missing numbers.

Literacy has been extremely exciting this month! We have been exploring and researching non-fiction books and were so inspired that we wanted to write our own. The children designed the front cover of our book, created a contents page and worked together in pairs to write each page. They worked beautifully together, reminding each other to use capital letters and finger spaces and even helped each other to sound out difficult words. Together we wrote the blurb for our book and bound it all together. It looks wonderful - what a sense of achievement!

Throughout October, we have continued to develop Learning through play. We have made great use of the changes in weather to explore the outdoors and the changes that happen during autumn. We have had so much fun with the fantastic Halloween displays in our school forest.

I am really looking forward to seeing what November brings us!

Enjoy having a look at some of our photographs.
