Steps for singing like a St Clare's Abbey Star!

10th Jan 2018

Hello to all choir members! Have a read below to find out my top tips for singing like a superstar. :)

Remember:

  • Mouth: Open your mouth a little bit wider to sing each word clearly.
    • Remember the shape your mouth makes when singing words like will, my, life *Think posh!*

  • Face: When performing, have a look at your facial expressions. Why not sing in front of the mirror at home? Are you really getting the message across through your face?
    • For example; "When you're stuck with a day, that's grey and lonely." Words from the well-known Annie song, stand in front of a mirror exploring how your face should be to show all of the expression.

  • Volume: Remember, as a member of a choir there should not be one particular voice heard above the others. We sing as one. So, for parts of the music that are louder than others, be careful that you do not shout.
    • Have a go singing your favourite song at home at different dynamic levels. Try it very quiet, a little quiet, medium volume and then finally loud.
    • It is important to remember that when singing quietly we have to work extra hard to make sure each word is very clear.

At home spend time sining the hymns and songs we are learning at choir remembering all of the tips I have mentioned.

Have fun singing!
