Autism Awareness Month in St Clare’s Abbey
To mark World Autism awareness month, refresher training provided by Education Authority, has been completed by many of our classroom assistants.
Intervention from Autism Advisory service for a group of our senior children with Autism has been arranged and will take place once weekly, for 6 weeks, beginning next week.
On Thursday 6thApril, children and staff dressed in blue (Autism awareness colour) and a special assembly was held whereby children watched, 'Amazing Things Happen' by Alexander Amelines. This was later discussed back in classes.
Specific thanks to one of our primary 1 and primary 7 children who each brought a book from home which they use to help them understand autism.
Thanks also to one of our senior boys who talked to his class about how his Autism makes him special.
