Competition Entery Published on Ulster Ladies Gaelic Facebook Page
Ulster Ladies Gaelic Facebook page states;
Here is one of the fantastic entries we have had regarding the “My Club” competition. We have had that many, our mailbox is almost full. The competition closes on the 10th April, so keep the emails/letters coming in. This comes from U10 player Eimear Cotter who plays for St John Bosco's Newry.
My GAA club
Introduction
Hi my name is Eimer Cotter and I play for a club called St John Bosco in Newry, County Down. What I love most about my club is the crest, I also like the colours which are blue and yellow, I love wearing the club gear for example the training jerseys, the skinny bottoms, the hoodie and the bobble hat. I love going to training and taking part in everything and in the different drills and games I put in 100%. When I’m at training I like talking to my friends when we have a drink break. I am very competitive in different drills. Bosco does lots of different fundraising like last year we did one that if you raised £20 or more you got a bobble hat, a gear bag (or school bag with crest on it) and a senior training jersey either the home or away one. If you raised £50 or more you got all of these items and a Bosco half zip. On Saturday 21/3/20 there was a food appeal by my club to help elderly people and those who have lost their jobs in the community. Over 100 bags containing food and cleaning supplies were given out to elderly and people who lost their jobs. This was done because of the current covid19 crisis we are in.
What the club means to me
The club means a lot to me as I have been a player for almost 5 years. When I go to training I feel like I am someone who fits in perfectly with my team mates on the pitch and in the hall.
What my club does for the community
For the community the club provides:
Gaelic football for juvenile boys and girls and we have ladies and men’s senior teams.
A gym for all club members aged 16 and above.
There is also an indoor hall in the clubrooms for fitness and club meetings.
Juvenile teams train in the hall of the Bosco Youth club during the winter.
A social club (pub) which is opened from Thursday to Sunday for people to meetup, relax and have a drink. There is a function room out the back for birthday parties, meetings and any other events.
Historical event
In 1975 and 2002 Bosco won the county minor championship of Down. In 1975 Bosco beat Burren and in 2002 Bosco beat Longstone in Pairc Esler. 2 of the team managers in 2002 played on the wining 1975 team. The captain of the 1975 team was one of the team managers of the 2002 team and his son was the captain of the wining 2002 team. Their names are Aidan (1975) and Rory (2002) Mulvaney.
What I am looking forward to about going back to training/games?
The reason I am excited about going back to training/games is because I will be able to meet up and talk to my friends again. The feeling of scoring goals and points is something I enjoy and look forward to doing it on the football pitch again. To finish I am proud to be a player of St. John Bosco and hope to continue to play for many more years for my club.
