St. Clare’s Abbey win Allianz Table Quiz.

The Annual Table Quiz for Primary Schools, sponsored by Allianz, was held in Aughlisnafin Community Hall in March. Many local schools accepted this as an opportunity to reveal their expertise on all aspects of Irish cultural and general knowledge.  Each school was represented by a team of four and this year 19 teams competed for the coveted Peter Walsh Trophy and the honour of representing their county at the Ulster Final at a later date.

 The competition involved a ten round table quiz which included questions on history, geography, sport, folklore, politics, music and famous people, all with an Irish connection. As always the children enjoyed their participation in this year’s keenly contested event as did the Quiz Master Collie Bell.

After the competition, Mr Collie Bell thanked all the schools who participated and congratulated St. Clare’s Abbey Newry on becoming Table Quiz Champions of Down for 2015. Mr Collie Bell Cathaoirleach Cumman na mBunscol an Dúin  invited Maggie Walsh, widow of the late Peter Walsh to present the Peter Walsh Trophy to the winning team, St. Clare’s Abbey Newry  and complimented all the children on their level of interest in and knowledge of their Irish culture. Mrs Walsh thanked all who were involved in the event particularly the children and the teachers and parents who had prepared them for this occasion.
