February in Mrs McGoldrick/Mrs Davey’s class
February has been such a busy month in our Primary 1 class. We had very important visitors in our school and they were able to see all the wonderful things that we have been doing in Primary 1. They especially loved how we play and we have to agree with them as all our children love play time. We really enjoyed showing them all the things that we are leaning to do in play and in our other learning areas too.
We continue to work on our sounds, looking at the letters q, d, h and g this month. We know it is super important to keep going over the sounds we have already learned in previous weeks too. We are also working on moving through our groups of High Frequency words. Our emergent writing is also really coming on too. We are using our sounds to segment words and then blend the sounds together when writing the words. We don’t always get all of the sounds, but that is ok as we haven’t learned them all yet and we are still learning.
In Numeracy we have been sorting into sets and subsets. This is a very important prerequisite for adding. We are getting really good at adding too, using sets, 10 frames and Numicon as a basis to learn from. We all learn in different ways so it is important to give everyone the opportunity to find a way that suits them. We worked also on our mental maths. We can find the number before and after within 10 and ordering our numbers too.
During play we spent time in the mud station, outdoor and indoor loose parts/construction, forest and creative classroom.
We also managed to dress up in red for ‘red day’ before we got off for our half term break, and we were lucky to have a movie and popcorn afternoon as a treat for our amazing behaviour when we had our visitors in school.
Well done Primary 1 👏😍😊
