Footsteps in the Forest from 3-4 June 2017 in Slieve Gullion Forest Park

12th May 2017

As High Summer lingers on the horizon, a mythical people are coming together. Slieve Gullion is their destination and our preparations are almost complete. Step into the forest this summer and step outside the world as you know it. Leave behind all that is familiar and let the gentleness of nature restore your weary spirit. Then close your eyes and listen, for in the distance a sound is stirring…   From land, sea and sky a mythical people are coming together. To meet old friends, to make new friends and to share with us their stories… of a world that has been forgotten and which is just waiting to be explored. This weekend-long festival will have something for fantasy lovers of all ages.

Guided theatrical performance to meet all the creatures

To book your free tickets for the guided theatrical performance to meet all the creatures scroll down to the booking system. Make sure to arrive about an hour before your tour is due. Or alternatively you can turn up on the day and queue up. There will be 1500 tickets available at the event. There will be time slots set aside for people with additional needs.

Not to miss all day activities…no tickets needed

You’ll have a chance to get up close and personal and maybe even get a picture with some of these larger than life characters from the world of myths and legends.   The market will offer excellent food produce of local provenance in a traditional style market place as well as live demonstrations, so why not ensure you visit and enjoy a tasty treat.   And throughout the day when you’re not meeting all the mythical characters, eating at the market, listening to local musicians at the main stage or talking to some weird and wonderful characters you can enjoy all these activities at Slieve Gullion Forest Park: Face painting, balloon modelling, monster mask making, blacksmith forge with Gerard Loughran, wood turning with Padriag Carragher, felting and glass painting with Artists from ROGHA.   There are five time slots set aside for people with additional needs. These sessions are reserved for people with additional needs such as ASD, ADHD, Down’s Syndrome, learning disabilities or sensory and communication disorders and their siblings. Group numbers will be smaller, speakers turned down and a little extra time will be given to complete the trail. The facilitators will be aware that the children have additional needs and the atmosphere will be more relaxed.

Please allow plenty of time, about an hour, to get to the park for your allotted tour; there will be ‘park & dander’ facilities – and there will be plenty of signage and helpful trolls as you arrive.

We recommend that you book early to avoid disappointment for Footsteps in the Forest 3 & 4 June 2017. The tour will take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes so please bring suitable footwear, and wear weather appropriate clothing. We do not recommend bringing pushchairs as per normal activities on the mountain, and the path isn’t suitable for wheelchair users.
