Google Expeditions Pioneer Program
A member of staff from Google America visited our school today to show us a new app they are developing called GoogleExpeditions. This is a new product that allows teachers to take their classes on virtual field trips, immersing pupils in experiences that bring abstract concepts to life and giving students a deeper understanding of the world beyond the classroom. These trips are collections of virtual reality panoramas — 360° photo spheres, 3D images and video, ambient sounds — annotated with details, points of interest, and questions that make them easy to use within the curriculum.
While nothing replaces hopping on the bus for a school trip, Expeditions provide an unparalleled opportunity for pupils to experience the sights and relate it to what they are learning.
We visited the new Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Barrier Reef, the Congo, Volcanoes of the world and more, we even took a trip to the moon. The P4, P6 and P7 pupils (and teachers) absolutely loved the experience, it was fantastic!
