January in Miss Savage’s Class

29th Jan 2025

Happy New Year from Primary One.

We are back and recharged after our Christmas break ready to take on all the new adventures and learning that lie ahead. The children have dived back into their work and play with great enthusiasm. We have been meeting our new letter sounds R, U and Q as well as revisiting those we had met before Christmas, consolidating our sounds and formations.

We have looked at numbers 8 9 and 10 and had lots of discussion and practical work looking at numbers that come before and after. We have really enjoyed beginning to explore money and discussing the variety of ways we can now pay for items from using coins to digital money on bank cards, phones and even watches.

It has been so great to have the opportunity to learn some Gymnastics skills this term with our coaches. They have been so impressed with how our primary ones can listen and follow some rather difficult gymnasts moves.

We have been busy in our Play Based Learning exploring in the forest and building and creating in the creative classroom and indoor construction.
We went in search of signs of winter in the forest and noticed how the soil can be harder to dig in the winter because of frost and trees and ropes are harder to climb because they can be cold and slippery.  Inside we have been building and constructing and painting Castles and towers. We were so excited to be going on our class trip to Bagnel’s Castle but unfortunately with the weather Storm Eowyn decided to give us a day to stay at home and play. We hope to reschedule our trip soon.
