Lent
Lent
Lent is the forty days leading up to Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday.
Lent is 40 days long because this is the length of time Jesus spent in the desert when he wanted to take time away from everyone to be with His father.
During this time Jesus had no food and nothing to drink. He was also tempted by the Devil.
During Lent, we make a special effort to ‘give up’ something that we like a lot, or ‘go on’ something that we find difficult to do. For example, some of us might ‘give up’ chocolate and some of us might ‘go on’ reading books more often.
We do these things so as to remember Jesus’ struggle in the desert.
Whatever we do during Lent we should do with a happy heart.
Lenten Prayer
As we journey through this Season of Lent, we take time to pray to Jesus,
to thank Him for the many gifts we receive and to ask for His help.
We pray for strength and courage, as we try our best to keep up good habits during Lent.
May Jesus help us not to give up.
May Lent remind us to always strive to be the best people we can be.
May we always try our best and work as hard as we can, even when we find things difficult.
We remember those who are suffering in our world at this time; the sick, the sad, the lonely
and the broken-hearted.
May the struggle Jesus faced in his lifetime,
bring strength to those bearing crosses at this time.
Amen
