March news Mrs McKeown/Mrs McGoldrick's class
March has brought about some better weather and the pupils have been enjoying their outdoor play and availing of all of the areas on offer. There has been super thinking, problem solving and co-operation going on with all the children. They have been enjoying investigating ‘water in containers’ in the water area and really enjoyed it.
In literacy the children have been learning lots of new sounds and we are getting so much better at recognising the sounds in words now. We know that 2 or 3 letters can represent 1 sound and we are word detectives, finding these sounds in stories. We are using them, as well as our high frequency words in our writing. We wrote book reviews for world book day and we have been using our imaginations to write creatively.
We have been busy in numeracy exploring our numbers. We can ‘explode‘ the numbers within 20 and find lots of ways of making these teen numbers through addition and subtraction. We have also been learning how to tell the time and measure using length. Lots of practical work was carried out on this.
We have lots of time for fun as well. The book fair arrived in school, we celebrated World Book Day as well as Green Day for St Patrick’s Day. It’s great learning and having fun with our friends as well.
