As we celebrated Maths Week this week we had a special focus during Play Based Learning on the various Numeracy skills that the children are developing. In Creative Classroom some children worked on shape and pattern, considering carefully the placement of the stones so that they were arranged in the shape of the sun. They then worked on representing this pattern using card and charcoal. In the construction area many children explored the concept of weight as they tried to create constructions that would balance. Again, children carefully considered the placement of the blocks and tubes to ensure that their creations were stable. Some children explored the early stages of measuring, using the measuring tape to check how long their constructions were. In the forest and meadow we had lots of sorting of random materials and discussions about how we sort and why the children had grouped certain items/objects together.
