May Altar at Newry Cathedral
May is a special time in the church calendar when we honour Mary, the mother of Jesus. This year, the parish is inviting the faithful to bring flowers to the cathedral during the month of May, to decorate Our Lady’s altar.
We hope that this little act of prayer and devotion will be a sign of the vibrant faith of our community.
Simply place your flowers in one of the provided vases at Our Lady’s altar and say a prayer. Any flowers are welcome, but those from your own garden or window box might be particularly appropriate.
Why not involve your children or grandchildren in gathering the flowers, placing them on the altar and praying together? This would be a special way to share your faith with your family.
“O Mary, we crown you with blossoms today, Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May.”
