Miss Rocks Transport Topic
In September and October we have been learning about Transport. We found out lots of information about different types of transport through reading non fiction books and enjoyed sharing our favourite transport facts with our partners.
We made boats from different types of materials and experimented with them to see if they would float or sink. Lots of our boats floated but some sunk. We decided that the boats that sunk were too heavy.
The bus inspector from Ulsterbus came to visit us. He talked about how it is important to wear your seatbelt when travelling to stay safe. We went on a double decker bus to the bus yard and got to stay on the bus when it went through the bus was. Afterwards we asked the bus driver Eddie some questions about his job and about buses. When we got back to school we got to sit in the driver's seat.
We used Bee Bot to learn about direction. We worked with our partner to plan a journey for Bee Bot. Next we had to make him travel to different places on the map. When we were programming Bee Bot we had to put in some code to make him move. If the code was incorrect and Bee Bot went the wrong direction we were able to edit it.
Another experiment we completed was testing how far paper planes could fly. We created a runway in our classroom and made sure the test was fair by all standing behind a line. Some planes travelled very far. We found out that if we put a paper clip on the nose of the plane we could make it travel further.
We have had lots of fun finding out about Transport and have enjoyed working with our friends and sharing our knowledge.
