Presentation at Assembly by P7 pupil Brooke Campbell.
On Friday at assembly we were privileged to listen to a presentation, ‘My medical history’ by one of our P7 pupils Brooke Campbell. Brooke’s very proud parents were also in attendance.
Brooke composed and presented a PowerPoint with images and text informing of her medical history. Brooke had been diagnosed with one of the world’s rarest tumours after being born, known as Mesoblastic Nephroma. She was one of only 125 children worldwide that had this type of tumour.
Brooke under went a 6 hour surgery in the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast at 4 weeks old to have her tumour removed. Amazingly Brooke had a wonderful recovery and went on to meet all her milestones from a very early age.
Despite a second surgery at a very young age and some further complications, Brooke enrolled in our school at four years old and is now in Primary Seven. Brooke told us that she now feels that life is getting easier. She informed all at assembly that she feels lucky and humble for the care she received from doctors and nurses and that she was also lucky and grateful for her brilliant family. Brooke’s dream is to one day become a doctor and care for children who go through similar battles to herself.
We thank Brooke most sincerely for sharing her story with us.
Brooke finished her presentation with an inspiring message for her peers and all in attendance,
‘ Even though times can seem unbelievably tough, there’s always brighter times ahead’.
