Relax Kids Programme in Mrs Noonan’s class

As a class we have been incorporating a programme called Relax Kids, led by the brilliant Mrs Byrne.

Relax Kids is a seven step programme to teach children relaxation techniques, positive affirmations, breathing exercises and how to regulate their emotions. The techniques learned here, help children to cope with stress and anxiety whilst building their confidence and self-esteem.  

We have learned about 4 different ‘Zones of Regulation’ and this programme helps our children to identify what ‘zone’ they are in and how they can get themselves to the optimum ‘green zone’ for calm and learning. Through this programme, we have explored ways that suit each of us to work our way to the ‘green zone’ and some examples of these methods include: 1)Finger breathing 2) Deep breaths 3) Positive Affirmations 4) Stretches and 5) Taking a cold drink.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring this in school and implementing their learnings to their daily routines. We do regular check ins using a Zones of Regulation poster at the back of the room and encourage the children to check in with this themselves also. We have noticed how beneficial this has been for the children and how well they have responded to it. We thought it would be good to share some images with you that your child can explain to you at home.
