School Choir Visit the Ulster Orchestra

22nd Nov 2022

On Tuesday 15th November the school choir travelled to Newry Leisure Centre to enjoy an afternoon listening to and being entertained by the Ulster Orchestra as a thank you for all their hard work last year during school Sacraments.

The children learned lots about the different instruments of the orchestra, the four families these instruments belong to and the six key ingredients that are needed to create a piece of music. The orchestra were conducted by the renowned David Brophy, who often features on RTE radio and television. This was a fabulous opportunity for our children who got to hear pieces of music from many composers including John Williams and Scott Joplin. The concert was both very engaging and interactive for the children and some got the chance to take part in live demonstrations. Thank you to the organisers in school and from Ulster Orchestra for giving our children this wonderful opportunity.

"I enjoyed the concert very much. I loved getting the chance to conduct the orchestra because it was fun and exciting!" (Jude Hegarty P6)

"My favoruite part was trying to guess the movie theme tunes the orchestra played." (Aidan Savage P6)
