Sing A New Song
On Tuesday 16th May 2023, the Primary 5 children from St Clare's Abbey PS gathered in St Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh, along with 11 other schools from the Dromore and Armagh Dioceses, for the celebration ceremony of the Sing A New Song Project. The celebration was part of a host of celebratory events marking 150 years of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh. The event was celebrated by Archbishop Eamon Martin and led by Orla Nugent and Sarah Jane Kelly.
The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance, staff, children and parents alike! The children made a wonderful sound and certainly filled the Cathedral with beautiful music. Archbishop Eamon Martin had questioned whether the roof of this 150-year-old sacred space could withstand such a wonderful sound... thankfully it did!
We would like to thank all who were involved in making this project such a success and for giving us the opportunity to be a pilot school. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the programme and it has provided some with a newfound love of singing. Take a look below to see the Primary 5s' thoughts on the project. "I loved the sessions with Orla and Sarah Jane. They made singing fun and taught us lots of new songs!" "I learned lots of new things to do with singing. Orla taught us all about diction, rhythm and dynamics." "My favourite song was 'You Are Holy'. It was fun to sing and it was in 2 parts which was tricky at times but it sounded amazing when we got it working!"
