ATTENTION World Down Syndrome Day 2019
St Clare's Abbey will be supporting World Down Syndrome Day on March 21 2019
It is a day on which Down Syndrome Organisations throughout the world organise and participate in events to raise public awareness of Down Syndrome.
The Theme is "Lots of Socks".
The significance of the date - 21st day of the 3rd month is that a person with Down Syndrome has an extra chromosome - 3 instead of 2.
The socks help us explain to young children that a chromosome is shaped liked a little sock.
The staff of St Clare's Abbey ask everyone to wear odd socks to school on Thursday 21.
The crazier the better!!!
We are very lucky to have a wonderful little girl, Caoimhe in our school.
Caoimhe has Down Syndrome and her Mummy has made a presentation to be shared with our whole school at assembly. The recording explains Down Syndrome in a child friendly way.
Please talk to your children about Down Syndrome and our school assembly.
Words cannot express how much the staff and pupils of St Clare's Abbey admire Caoimhe.
