P7 Mrs McParland’s class visits Bagenal’s Castle
17th Jan 2025
As part of our World Around Us topic, ‘The Irish Famine,’ we visited Bagenal’s Castle and were transported back to 1847! We got to wear the clothes and experience what a child our age would have experienced entering Newry Union Workhouse. There were a lot of rules and Master McGuiness was very strict. The girls sewed and the boys picked oakum to seal the boats in the quay. We used slates and chalk to show our knowledge of the 3 Rs reading, writing and arithmetic. It was a great experience but we were glad when we returned to our lovely school back in 2025.
