February News Mrs McKeown/Mrs McGoldrick's class

27th Feb 2020

February has been such a busy month, it's hard to believe we have done so much in such a short space of time!

In numeracy we have been exploring money and finding change. We were figuring out lots of different ways to make amounts of money and we also solved money problems. We worked on subtraction and finding the difference between. We have been practising and using our maths skills on the computer and I-pad.

In literacy we continued to develop our writing and we are able to write a lot more sentences now. We have begun learning lots of different variations of our sounds and we found this a little tricky to begin with, but with more practise we will get better at it.

During our play Based Learning we have been investigating all the different areas and learning about ‘stability’. We have been using the indoor and outdoor construction areas to investigate stable structures and examining the stable buildings in our surrounding area.

We talked about Shrove Tuesday and enjoyed yummy pancakes. Some children were very adventurous with their pancake topping.

Lent began on Ash Wednesday and we received our ashes from Mrs Gallagher. We are going to work hard on our Lenten promises

We also had lots of creative opportunities this month, we made valentine’s cards and  participated in Newry Feis. We were all so proud of the children’s amazing performance in their ‘original composition’. A special thank you to everyone who came to support the children. They were thrilled to see you and very excited when we stopped at the Shelbourne Bakery on our way back to school.
