January news from P7

1st Feb 2016

We have had a very busy and exciting January in P7. We welcomed a new pupil called Dannielle, we hope you enjoy being part of St Clare’s Abbey.

We started our new World Around Us topic – Space. We are all loving learning about this very exciting topic and have had lots of questions that we are trying to find the answers to. Google Cardboard was used to bring some of Space into our classroom, it was very cool.

In mixed groups we worked together to create videos about E-Safety and how important it is for us to ‘Play our part for a better Internet’. We enjoyed this very much, we used a variety of media to create our videos including play-doh, photographs, videos, iMovie, green screen, roleplays and PowerPoints. It was so much fun and we are very proud of our work which is displayed on the C2K Media Library for everyone to watch, why don’t you have a look at them? You can access all the entries in the competition on C2K Media Library through your My School page.

We are so pleased to be learning the African Drums on Wednesday afternoons and hope that we will be able to play something wonderful before we leave school this year, we’ll keep you posted.

We visited St Joseph’s High school on Thurs 28th January to explore some of the different subject areas they have to offer. We made ‘God’s Eyes’ in Art, plastic keyrings in Technology and enjoyed the African Drums in Music. It was such a great morning, thank you to St Joseph’s for inviting us.

We had 2 teams take part in the Credit Union Schools Quiz on Friday 29th January. We were, as always, looking forward to taking part and were very happy with our scores which earned the younger team second place in their competition. Well done to those who took part. Our school is very proud of you.

In Numeracy this month we were learning how to do long multiplication, we looked at the rotational symmetry of shapes and we created line graphs to present information.

In Literacy we explore the various genres of fiction writing. We looked at fantasy, science fiction, fairytales, mystery and stories with a familiar setting.

We attended mass on the 6th of January and have begun preparations for our Sermon of Light which will happen in school next week.

We have a lot to look forward to next month and P7 will be busy, as always, right up to the big move into our new state of the art school.
