St Clares Abbey Primary School, Newry

March in Mrs Mc Parland’s P1 Class

27th Mar 2024

Our news sounds this month were k and b.

In numeracy we continued to work on adding / number bonds. We completed lots of practical work with 10 children. We also worked on ordering numbers to 15 and the “missing number”.

World Book Day on Thursday 7th March was an exciting day for everyone in St Clare’s Abbey, please visit the link to look at our photographs. View world book day >>>

On Friday 15th March we celebrated Green day in school. The children and adults had a fabulous morning. View green day >>>

We walked around our school building to look for spring flowers. On our walk the children used iPads to take photographs and captured some wonderful images. In the creative classroom we produced observational drawings of tulips and daffodils. In the outdoor construction area we built homes for baby animals that are born in spring. During ‘free construction’ in the classroom we built wonderful models.

It rained very heavily for a few days which made the sand area very interesting! There was lots of laughter as the children explored ‘quicksand’. We had dirty leggings, dirty boots and a dirty face.

Everyone in St Clare’s Abbey wore odd socks to school on Thursday 21st to support World Down Syndrome Day 2024.

Wednesday 27th saw everyone very excited as the Easter Bunny had been seen outside St Clare’s Abbey. While we were in the Library listening to the story ‘We’re going on an egg hunt’ he went into our classroom and left Easter eggs.

A very big thank you to the children who are taking part in the ‘Eat Them To Defeat Them’ challenge at home and in school. One young lady in our class ate, pineapple, honeydew melon, watermelon, cucumber, carrot sticks and tried kiwi. She didn’t like the slice of kiwi, but said she will try it again after Easter.

Happy Easter from the children and adults in Mrs Mc Parland’s class.
