P4 & P7 Pupils donate to El Salvador

Our very generous P4 & P7 pupils shared some of their 'sacramental money', to support the work of the sisters of St Clare in El Salvador. Sr Treasa, the daughter of our P7 classroom assistant, Mrs Davey had been in contact with us to share some photographs with us of the work she is doing in El Salvador.

In St Clare's Abbey our motto of 'Amor Dei, Aliorum, Literarumque' calls us to love God and others and these very caring children have shown that they are taking this call seriously.

Thank you every one, you donated £561 which the nuns will use very well.

I am so proud of you.

Mrs Monaghan.

Please read Sister Treasa's email below to get an insight into the work the Sisters do in El salvador.

Dear Boys and Girls

Our Sisters have many projects in El Salvador. Each is different as it depends on the needs of the community.

Here in La Chacra we are focused on the youth and families. We try to give them the skills they need to help them make good decisions and not get involved in gang warfare/drugs and violence. We try to educate them and 'skill' them up so that they have the ability to sew, cook, grow vegetables etc..in order to survive and make money and become self sufficient. We also run clubs to allow them to ENJOY a little of life.

We pay for teachers to come in and teach them to play drums, draw and dance. It makes life a little brighter and also enables them to socially interact in a positive environment.

Blessed Ignatius Rice and Saints Clare and Francis devoted their lives to praying for others and all three had a special love for the poor. Much work is done here in that spirit.

The children here do not have a lovely new school like ST CLARE'S ABBEY.. They are not blessed with abundant resources, computers, play grounds and opportunities. Some of these children do not have food or shoes.

Our Sisters work in a school called 'Fe y Alegria.' The children are the cleaners! They have a rota for toilet cleaning, brushing etc. The Sisters provide a little food each day for the children to ensure that everyone gets at least one nutritious meal. Their houses are not like houses in Ireland. They are mostly tin dwellings like the ones I have attached in my photographs. It is really, really hot here so you can imagine the heat inside.

Thank you for your prayerful support and generous donation.

On behalf of those who benefit because of your thoughtfulness.... Gracias y Paz y Bien.

Sr Treasa
