P6 Visit Newry Library

The Primary 6 children visited Newry Library this week for a storytelling session with Liz Weir (poet, author and storyteller).  Mrs Weir was fabulous and gave us lots of tips for creating our own story. She recommended using our senses when writing – telling the reader what we see, feel, hear and touch.  Her best piece of advice was ‘SHOW, don’t tell’.  We are encouraged to show the reader through our use of language what the character is doing and how they are feeling.  She told us lots of stories from around the world; this fitted in so well with our genre ‘Stories and Poems from different cultures’.  It was a very enjoyable morning.  Many thanks to Mrs Weir and all the staff at Newry Library.  Hopefully lots of Primary 6 children will be joining in the Summer Reading Challenge at our local libraries.
